Blue Hills Outpost

Outpost Welcome Guide

Read this before you head out.

Your gear is staged for an easy lake day. Take two minutes to check fit, weather, route, and care basics before anyone launches.

Safety first

Fit the flotation device before you touch the water.

  • The flotation device is your seatbelt. Wear it whenever you are on the water.
  • Tighten the side straps so it does not ride up around your chin when pulled at the shoulders.
  • Children and weak swimmers should stay close to shore and under direct adult supervision.

Board and boat control

Stay connected to the gear.

  • Use the leash when one is provided for a paddleboard. If you fall, it keeps the board within reach.
  • Keep paddles, flotation devices, and the dry bag together at the dock when not in use.
  • Do not tow kayaks, canoes, or paddleboards behind a motorized boat.

Lake brief

Morning water is usually the cleanest window.

  • If the wind picks up, stay close to the protected shoreline.
  • If you see whitecaps, treat the water as closed and head back.
  • Stay clear of main boat channels, landings, swim areas, and anchored boats.

Equipment care

Treat the gear like cabin furniture.

  • Do not drag boards or boats over rocks, gravel, concrete, or metal dock edges.
  • Carry gear with two people when possible.
  • Do not leave inflatable boards sitting in direct sun for long stretches when they are out of the water.

Weather shift

If conditions turn, stop paddling.

  • Head to the nearest safe shore or dock before the weather gets worse.
  • If you cannot get back to the original dock, text your location and stay put.
  • We will coordinate next steps based on your location, weather, and route timing.
